When in a doctor's office waiting for your turn what do you do? There are magazines on the table, other people sitting around to talk to, or even possibly a fish tank to watch creators swim back and forth. There is all of this interaction to be had within a tinny waiting room but the first thing i go for is my phone. This little device that can connect me to anywhere outside of my current situation. It seems to be something that when in a situation someone does not want to be in that person will find a way to escape as far away as possible. Now one could argue that reading magazines could help one escape. I do agree with this but a phone becomes much more targeted and is interactive. Instead of having to choose from a limited number of stories in a magazine one could talk to a friend, find unlimited amounts of articles, or even play a game. What also seems interesting is that a lot of the aspects you get from a phone you could get in a doctors office such as interaction with other people, magazine articles, or games (playing with the fish). Yet we all seem to find it comforting to hide back into our phones and keep it as a comforting device.
