Pinterest is a social site that lets users "pin" to a wall anything that interests them and allows other users to browse and comment on what has been pinned. Recently I came upon an article about the legality of Pinterest. A lawyer who was obsessed with Pinterest decided to look up the legality of posting others work without their consent online. In the form of Pinterest it was completely against copy write laws. Further more in the terms and agreements of Pinterest, the user becomes completely liable for lawsuits including paying any damages that occur to Pinterest it's self. It has been compared to Napster in the fact that artists work is being stolen and distributed illegally. The difference I see within Pinterest and Napster is that Napster had huge record labels working against them. Pinterest does not have a large organization that can attack it all at once. For now Pinterest operates under the assumption that these artists like the attention and sharing for more exposure. I feel like Pinterest will have an interesting future on its hands. As for its users, I would start being a little more careful of what I pin.
